Display Bases IADR

The International Art Doll Registry has just had its first online class, Creating a mossy mushroom display base. The class teaches the basic steps to create a strong mushroom or toadstool style base, and also includes information on using faux mosses and grass on the display.

What I can say is that it is a wonderful class!! I have just started making bases so it has helped a lot.

I was quite glad that I started making my mushroom instead of continuing on with my Autumn Fairy, because when I cleaned my doll oven the day before I must have knocked the dial up a bit, I had it was set at the perfect temp for the clay I use and well as you can guess my mushroom was well done. Oddly enough it browned quite well, around the gills and the very bottom. Its was a good reminder to always check the temp.

My mushroom after it has been baked.  I spend quite a bit of time working on the gills, maybe a bit to much.. but I rather like how it turned out.

The wood base was made for me by my great-uncle.

My Finished Mossy Mushroom Display Base

Well as soon as I put the finishing touches on my Mushroom display I moved straight on to finishing my Autumn Fairys tree. I had finished sculpting it some time ago but I had not gone much further then that.

So now I must go and finish my little Autumn Fay.
